Bosch Garden Lawnmowers

Bosch is not necessarily a manufacturing brand which people naturally associate with lawnmowers; nevertheless, they do make them.

Usually associated with power tools for the serious DIYer, such as drills and the like, Bosch are adept at designing and producing all manner of tools for the home, and their ability with lawnmowers is no exception.

Since 1886 when Robert Bosch created it’s first productive factory in America, they have often been at the forefront of technology, inventing and improving on current designs, often being the first to think of, and bring into existence, new designs, aimed at making jobs around the home that little bit easier to do ourselves.

It was just a few years later in 1898, that Bosch moved its production to England, opening an office in London. Then later still, a commercial premises near Oxford Street in the capital in 1907.

Today Bosch have many production plants in the United Kingdom, from the commercial bustle of Cardiff, to the tiny, middle of nowhere market town of Stowmarket in Suffolk

Bosch are credited with the invention of the spark plug in 1902, and at the same time, the creation of a magneto of a higher voltage than ever previously seen. This was to be the pre-cursor for the forthcoming creation of the electrically powered lawnmower, and the move into the high powered electric tools for which Bosch are so famed.

The most recent invention for which Bosch is being acclaimed is the Rotak cordless lawnmower. This is regarded as the most powerful battery operated lawnmower ever produced. This of course has all the advantages of an electric mower, but without the restrictive cables.

Battery powered mowers are less powerful than their electric cousins, yet the Rotak claims to be equal in power and capability to those which operate with a mains power supply.

Right at the top of the market, they are quite expensive, but the quality does make it worth paying a bit extra, recent reviews rave about this new cordless version, but all mention the price, which is about three times as much as similar, although not as innovative, models from competitors.

Over the years Bosch have formed alliances with other companies, they have successfully merged with them to create newer, bigger and better companies. It is moves like these that has enabled Bosch to expand their areas of production, no longer only producing the power tools for which they are probably best known.

For example, by merging with Siemens, Bosch are now able to produce many household appliances such as ‘white goods’, washing machines, ovens, refrigerators, freezers and the like.

More recently, as discussed earlier in this report, Bosch have begun to produce lawnmowers, a move made possible by the alliance of themselves with the well known lawnmower brand, Atco-Qualcast. They now work with Atco at the Suffolk factory which has been the main production plant for Atco, since they themselves verged with Qualcast in 1975.

Lawnmower production is the latest in a huge list of successes fro the Bosch brand
