Wolf Garten

Wolf – Garten Garden Lawnmowers

Wolf – Garten was founded in 1922 in Betzdorf an der Sieg, Germany by a man called August Wolf, along with his two sons Gregor and Otto.

Actually, the history can be traced to even earlier than that. In 1919 August Wolf himself was working a forge, and as was the way in that era, blacksmiths were not confined to nailing iron shoes to horse’s hooves.

Anything that involved the use of iron was performed by the farrier and August Wolf was a master in his trade. He is credited with the invention of the acetylene welding process, and was by far the most respected ironmonger of that time, maybe ever.

In 1922, Herr Wolf’s sons entered the business. Now being a family affair, and with three great business minded and hard-working men to run the show, the business grew quickly and soon the little forge was just not big enough and they moved to the factory in Betzdorf.

This is when Wolf – Garten really took off, and in 1927, the highly intelligent Gregor Wolf transformed the humble field-hoe into the much more effective farming machine, the draw-hoe.

The gardening tools business which Wolf – Garten are so well known for was born. With the knowledge and experience the three men already possessed in the art of ironmongering, they had no difficulty in producing the implements which they were themselves designing.

In the 1950’s, Wolf – Garten began to concentrate more on the production of it’s lawnmowers, a move that has earned them a world wide name for their reliable and quality machines.

They moved through the stages of development along with all of the other manufacturers across Europe. First the push along mowers, battery powered ones, petrol ones and electrical mowers. They have made every type of mower there has been made.

The next big achievement for Wolf came in 1975, when they were credited with making the quietest petrol mower ever to be made, as most lawnmowers sound like pneumatic drills, this was no mean feat.

Then in 1996, they invented a ride on scooter for mowing lawns. Men across the world were suddenly mowing their lawns on Sunday afternoons without having to be nagged into it by their wives!

Yet despite all of these wonderful, useful inventions in engineering, probably the most innovative and intelligent of their projects has to be the lawn research centre. This was created back in the 1960’s, and it is still today the largest site of its kind in Europe. They grow and study lawn, and then develop lawn feed, weedkillers and the like, from their scientific findings.

Wolf – Garten are as well known and as highly respected today as they were back in the middle of the last century. From machines to cut and control your lawn, to food to help it grow again. They really have got the whole ‘field’ covered.
